Group Retirement · Chatham-Kent
Direct answer
RiskX does. We are an independent, family-owned brokerage serving employers across Canada outside Quebec, and Chatham-Kent is served the way we serve every market: virtually, start to finish, with one person on our side who designs the match and the vesting, runs enrolment online through a Canadian digital platform that administers the accounts, and stays on the file for the annual review. For a Chatham, Wallaceburg or Tilbury employer of 20 to 1,000+ people the plan is a group RRSP, a DPSP or both, and the design starts from what this municipality actually is: a farm and food economy with a parts industry attached, not a smaller Windsor.

The municipality's own figures: more than 2,400 farms, about five percent of every farm in Ontario, four billion dollars of agriculture and agri-food activity, and first place in Canada for brussels sprouts, black tobacco, cucumbers, pumpkins, seed corn and tomatoes. A quarter of Ontario's food manufacturers sit in rural Ontario, and Chatham-Kent's are within thirty minutes of Highway 401.
There is greenhouse acreage here too, about a tenth of the province's, but the Leamington cluster belongs to the Windsor-Essex story and we leave it there. What matters for a group RRSP is the shape of these employers: a 45-person seed company, a 120-person processor, a 30-person equipment dealer, all hiring the same agronomists, millwrights and drivers, and most of them without a retirement plan on the table. The same municipal figures count 171 companies with 50 or more employees, the upper half of the employers this page is written for.

Designs the match, the eligibility and the vesting, prices the options, coordinates the setup end to end, reviews the plan with you annually, and keeps the sponsor governance file CAPSA expects.

Chatham-Kent's automotive economy is supply, not assembly. Airbags and emissions components in Tilbury, heat shields and actuators in Chatham, tool-and-die and finishing shops in Wallaceburg, feeding assembly lines that are somewhere else.
The last vehicle plant here, the truck plant in Chatham, closed in 2011, so the pay and benefits bar is not set by one automaker's contract. It is set plant by plant, at sizes that look like the reader's own, which is exactly where a visible group RRSP changes a hiring conversation: the technician comparing two 150-person parts plants sees the match, not the logo.
In May 2026 the Government of Canada announced more than 20 million dollars under its Regional Tariff Response Initiative for London and Chatham-Kent manufacturers adapting their supply chains, and four of the named recipients are Wallaceburg tool-and-die and finishing shops. That is the honest picture of the year these employers are in: real cost pressure, real uncertainty about the next order, and a workforce they cannot afford to lose to the plant across the county line.
A group retirement plan is one of the few benefits an employer can add in a tariff year without a raise to fund it, because the employer sets the match, and a DPSP contribution can be tied to the years the business can afford it. Employer DPSP contributions vest on a membership clock, no later than 24 consecutive months as a beneficiary under the Income Tax Act, so the plan rewards staying through a hard stretch.
Chatham-Kent ranks near the top of Ontario for seasonal agricultural workers by reported counts, behind the Windsor-Essex greenhouse belt. For a farm or processor here the plan-design question that follows is eligibility: who joins, and when.
A waiting period of three months, six months or a first anniversary is a design choice, not a legal default, and it is the difference between a plan that works for a year-round crew of 40 and one that tries to enrol a harvest crew of 200 who will be elsewhere in November. We design the window around your payroll, not the other way around.
The Chatham-Kent chamber names its anchors as a parts maker, a seed company, a gas utility, the college and the health alliance, and none of them is where a 20-to-500-person employer here buys a retirement plan. On ownership the rule is the same everywhere: the Income Tax Act keeps shareholders above 10 percent, and their relatives, out of the DPSP (s.147(2)(k.2)), so the principal joins the group RRSP with the staff and an Individual Pension Plan usually does the owner-side work.
One named person designs your plan and stays on the file for the annual review. Not a call centre.
Independent and family-owned since 1994. The platform administers, we advise, and the two stay separate on purpose.
We tell you when your existing plan is fine. Some reviews end exactly there.
We publish the math: a worked 50-person example and a match-cost calculator with every assumption visible.
Group retirement can stand alone, or come as one package with health, dental and virtual care designed together.
A group RRSP match is remuneration for Ontario's Employer Health Tax and a DPSP contribution is not; thresholds, mechanics and worked examples are at the Ontario EHT guide.

The cost is the match you design. Start from the 50-person worked example with its assumptions labelled at the worked 50-person example page, or the calculator at the employer-match cost calculator; above the EHT exemption, the EHT line on the match applies as above. Setup takes about 8 to 10 weeks for a 20 to 200 person company and longer for larger plans. If a plan was sold to you years ago and nobody has looked at its fees since, that review is where to begin: the existing-plan review page.

No. Design, enrolment and the annual review are all delivered virtually, and the plan works the same in Chatham, Wallaceburg or Tilbury as in any city we serve.
The employer sets the match, and DPSP contributions can follow the business's good years. A plan that vests is also a low-cost way to keep the people you cannot replace if orders come back.
Eligibility windows are a design choice. A waiting period of three months, six months or a first anniversary keeps the plan focused on your year-round crew; we set it with you.
Yes for a group RRSP match, no for DPSP contributions. Thresholds and worked numbers are at the Ontario EHT guide.
The group RRSP, yes. Shareholders above 10 percent and their relatives are excluded from the DPSP by the Income Tax Act; an Individual Pension Plan usually covers the principal.
About 8 to 10 weeks for a 20 to 200 person company, longer for larger plans. The cost is the match you choose; the worked example is at the worked 50-person example page.
