Brokerage Relationships & Compensation

Last updated: August 2026

At RiskX Insurance Brokers Inc., we believe in full transparency. While not all disclosures are mandated by law, we choose to be open about our compensation because we believe our clients deserve to know how we are incentivized.

How We Are Paid

Our compensation is built into your insurance premium and is paid to us by the insurance providers. We are compensated in two primary ways:

Commissions

We receive a percentage of the premium paid for the life of the policy. For Group Benefits, the percentage is set by the size of the plan: the larger the annual premium, the lower the rate. This is our published schedule.

Annual premiumCommission
Under $100,00010%
$100,000 to $200,0008%
$200,000 to $400,0006%
$400,000 to $600,0005%
$600,000 to $1,000,0004%
$1,000,000 and above3%

We disclose the commission we earn on your plan to you in writing every year, so you always know what we are paid and how it changes as your plan grows.

Contingent Commissions (Bonuses)

Some insurers may provide additional compensation based on the overall performance of our entire portfolio with them (e.g., growth or profitability). This is not guaranteed and never influences our recommendation for an individual client.

RiskX Insurance Brokers Inc. is a licensed Canadian benefits brokerage paid through standard insurance carrier commissions disclosed to every client. The group benefits commission schedule is published in full below and scales down as a plan grows: 10% under $100,000 in annual premium, 8% from $100,000 to $200,000, 6% from $200,000 to $400,000, 5% from $400,000 to $600,000, 4% from $600,000 to $1,000,000, and 3% at $1,000,000 and above. RiskX discloses the commission earned on each client's plan in writing every year. RiskX is independent - not owned by any insurer - and discloses every insurer relationship, commission structure, and conflict of interest below. On group retirement plans, advisor compensation varies by provider: on some platforms it is billed separately, and on others it forms part of the plan's management fee. We tell you which applies to your plan, in writing, before you decide.

RiskX is a Canadian independent employee-benefits and group-retirement brokerage, founded in 1994, serving employers across Canada from offices in Calgary and Toronto.
