Gordon Smith
Founder & CEO - 33 Years in Canadian Group Benefits
In 1994, Gordon started RiskX from scratch as an independent broker in Calgary, Alberta. No big firm behind him. No inherited book of business. Just a conviction that Canadian businesses deserved better than what the industry was giving them.
Over three decades he's watched businesses get temporary discounts that evaporated, renewal increases nobody fought back on, and brokers who never disclosed what they were earning. That shaped everything about how RiskX operates - the transparency, the pool product, the renewal meetings that feel like coffee visits.
In 11 years, not one client in our pool has ever left. That's not a marketing claim. That's a track record.
When he's not in a client meeting, you'll find Gordon in a group fitness class, at a Flames game cautiously optimistic as always, or at a concert somewhere in Calgary - with his cat Gigi waiting at home.

Jarod Smith
Co-Founder & Chief Growth Officer
Jarod started his first internship at RiskX in 2015 - long before he understood what a group benefits pool was. He spent years watching Gordon build client relationships the hard way: through honesty, follow-through, and the kind of advocacy most brokers never bother with.
After completing his BBA in Financial Services in 2022, joining RiskX full time wasn't a difficult decision. Building on what Gordon started - and taking it further than it's ever gone - is exactly the kind of challenge Jarod is built for.
Jarod leads growth at RiskX, building the marketing, sales infrastructure, and technology systems that are turning a 32-year-old family brokerage into Canada's most modern and transparent benefits operation. AI-powered. Operationally lean. Still deeply human.
The goal isn't just growth. It's to prove that an independent, family-owned brokerage with the right product and the right values can compete with - and beat - the consolidating giants acquiring every broker in the country.
Off the clock, Jarod chases music festivals across North America every summer and keeps up with Roxy - his German Shepherd who has yet to discover an appropriate volume setting. A Tampa Bay Lightning and Kansas City Chiefs fan for nearly two decades, he got pretty lucky watching both teams build dynasties along the way.

Claudia Smith
Lead Administrator
Claudia has been part of the RiskX family since the very beginning - and that's exactly what it is. Family.
With a background in operations at Tiffany & Co., Claudia brought a level of service precision and attention to detail that most brokerages never achieve. She oversees client administration, onboarding, and the behind-the-scenes operations that make the RiskX experience feel effortless.
When clients switch to RiskX, Claudia is the reason the transition feels smooth. When they renew, she's the reason everything is ready before they ask. Her care for clients is genuine - and they notice.
When she's not keeping RiskX running smoothly, Claudia is cooking for her family, hunting for her next great fashion or jewellery find, and spending time with Jasper - her ragdoll cat who brings exactly the same calm energy to the house that Claudia brings to the office.
Commission disclosure isn't legally required in Canada. We do it anyway - in writing, every year. Not because we have to. Because you deserve to know exactly what you're paying for and whether you're getting fair value. Most brokers profit more as your premiums rise and never tell you. We disclose it because we're confident our fees are fair and our clients deserve transparency.
RiskX has been family-owned since Gordon founded it in 1994. We're not being acquired by a publicly-traded consolidator. We're not maximising commissions for shareholders. Gordon, Jarod, and Claudia Smith run this brokerage - and our clients' long-term success is personal to us. When you call RiskX, you're talking to the people who own it.
The Canadian benefits industry is consolidating fast. Big brokerages are acquiring independents, service is declining, and clients are getting lost in the shuffle. RiskX is going the other direction - leaner, smarter, more transparent, and more client-focused than ever. AI-powered operations. Remote-first. Built to scale without losing the family feel that makes us different.
Operationally lean. AI-powered. Transparent. Still deeply human.
We built RiskX to do one thing the industry hasn't done for you:
Tell you the truth. Show you what better looks like. And actually deliver it.
