Group Retirement · Lethbridge
Direct answer
RiskX does. We are an independent, family-owned Alberta brokerage, in business since 1994, serving employers across Canada outside Quebec, and Lethbridge is served the way we serve every market: virtually, start to finish, with one person on our side who designs the match and the vesting, runs enrolment online through a Canadian digital platform that administers the accounts, and stays on the file for the annual review. For a Lethbridge, Taber or Coaldale employer of 20 to 1,000+ people the plan is a group RRSP, a DPSP or both, and the design starts from an economy unlike either big Alberta city: it grows and processes food, and its biggest employers teach and heal.

The city's own economic data platform counts more than 100 manufacturers across six industrial and business parks, generating over 1.2 billion dollars in annual sales, employing about 4,800 people and paying more than 185 million dollars a year in wages, on a tenth of the city's economy.
Construction employs 7,100 people, more than manufacturing's 4,800 and double agriculture's 3,400. Those are the businesses this page is for: a 45-person fabricator, a 90-person food-equipment maker, a 30-person contractor, each competing for millwrights and technologists with every other shop in the parks, and most of them without a retirement plan on the offer letter.

Designs the match, the eligibility and the vesting, prices the options, coordinates the setup end to end, reviews the plan with you annually, and keeps the sponsor governance file CAPSA expects.

Economic Development Lethbridge puts agriculture and ag-related business at nearly a fifth of the region's economy, on close to a million irrigated acres growing potatoes, canola, corn, lentils, sugar beets and dozens of specialty crops, with processors of the size of Cavendish, Maple Leaf, Richardson, McCain and PepsiCo running plants along Highway 3.
The region brands itself as Canada's Premier Food Corridor, and the irrigation district that feeds it is the largest in the country. For the 20-to-500-person employers underneath those names, the packaging shop, the trucking firm, the equipment dealer, the seed company, the labour market is set by the processors: shift work, year-round hiring, and a benefits package that a small firm has to answer with something besides wages.
Lethbridge's largest employers are institutions. The University of Lethbridge calls itself the city's second-largest employer with more than a thousand staff, the regional health authority is described in reporting as the largest employer south of Calgary, and the school district, the city and the polytechnic fill out the list.
Every one of those jobs comes with a public-sector pension, and a 60-person private employer in Lethbridge is not going to match that. It does not have to. A group RRSP match on every pay stub, and a DPSP contribution that vests over time, is the private-sector answer, and it is the part of a job offer the institutions cannot copy. Employer DPSP contributions vest on a membership clock, no later than 24 consecutive months as a beneficiary under the Income Tax Act, so the plan pays for staying.
The University of Lethbridge and Lethbridge Polytechnic, renamed from Lethbridge College in September 2024, run under an agreement to avoid duplicating programs and feed a shared regional innovation network.
That gives southern Alberta an unusually coordinated pipeline of graduates in agriculture, engineering technology, health and trades, and it means the people a Lethbridge employer wants are trained here and can be kept here, if the offer gives them a reason. A visible retirement plan is one of the few benefits that reads the same to a 24-year-old technologist and a 50-year-old plant supervisor.
Lethbridge is one of the few cities we serve where a local employer can already buy benefits close to home: the chamber of commerce offers members a health and dental plan, and local advisors name group plans among their services. Most of those stop at benefits.
The retirement side, the match, the vesting and the annual fee review, is the work this page is about. On ownership the rule is the same everywhere: shareholders holding 10 percent or more, and their relatives, cannot be DPSP members (Income Tax Act s.147(2)(k.2)); the principal joins the group RRSP and an Individual Pension Plan usually covers the owner's side, a decision for the first call with your accountant, not a promise here.
One named person designs your plan and stays on the file for the annual review. Not a call centre.
Independent and family-owned since 1994. The platform administers, we advise, and the two stay separate on purpose.
We tell you when your existing plan is fine. Some reviews end exactly there.
We publish the math: a worked 50-person example and a match-cost calculator with every assumption visible.
Group retirement can stand alone, or come as one package with health, dental and virtual care designed together.
Alberta has no employer payroll or health tax of the Ontario kind. A group RRSP match is a taxable benefit to the employee with CPP on the employer's side; DPSP contributions are not a taxable benefit and carry no CPP. The mechanics are on the plan-types comparison at the plan-types comparison page.

The employer match is the cost; eligibility, vesting and the DPSP question shape the number as much as the percentage. Worked examples, marked as illustrative, are on the group retirement page at the worked cost examples. From first call to first payroll deduction, plan on about 8 to 10 weeks for a 20 to 200 person company, longer for larger plans: see the setup steps. Already running a plan a processor's broker set up years ago? Fees nobody has reviewed since are common; start at the existing-plan review page.

RiskX, an independent Alberta brokerage that designs and runs group RRSP and DPSP plans for Lethbridge and southern Alberta employers virtually, with a Canadian digital platform administering the accounts and running enrolment online.
No. Design, enrolment and the annual review are delivered virtually, and the plan works the same in Lethbridge, Taber or Coaldale as in any city we serve.
You do not match a public pension; you make your plan visible and let it vest. A match on every pay stub and DPSP dollars a departing employee leaves behind are money an institution's job posting does not show.
Most local plans stop at health and dental. The retirement side, designed around your payroll and reviewed for fees every year, is a different job, and we do it as its own job, on its own or alongside the benefits plan.
No employer payroll or health tax of the Ontario kind. A group RRSP match is a taxable benefit with CPP; DPSP contributions are not.
The group RRSP, yes. Shareholders at 10 percent or more and their relatives are excluded from the DPSP by the Income Tax Act; an Individual Pension Plan usually covers the principal.
About 8 to 10 weeks for a 20 to 200 person company, longer for larger plans. The cost is the match you design; the worked examples are at the group retirement page's worked cost examples.
