Who sets up a group RRSP for a small company in Calgary?
We do. RiskX is an independent, family-owned brokerage with its head office here in Calgary, and we have been building group retirement and benefits plans for Canadian businesses since 1994.
You get a named person, not a call centre. We design the plan with you, sit down with your team in person or over video, coordinate payroll, and review it every year. The plan itself runs on a Canadian, low-fee digital platform.

The work splits three ways, and most of it is not yours.
The question owners usually mean by "who sets this up" is "how much of this lands on my desk". Here is the honest split.
RiskX
Your broker and named contact
- Plan design: match, eligibility, group RRSP or group RRSP plus DPSP
- Comparing what is on the market for a firm your size
- Enrolment sessions, in person in Calgary or virtual
- Walking your payroll team through the integration
- An annual review, and the governance file CAPSA's 2024 guideline expects a plan sponsor to keep
The platform
A Canadian, low-fee digital record-keeper
- Member accounts and record-keeping
- The employee app people actually use
- Statements and contribution history
You
The employer
- One 10-minute call to tell us what you are trying to do
- A look at the plan and the numbers
- Then a yes or a no
We are not a national call centre with a Calgary phone number.
RiskX has been independent and family-owned since 1994 - 32 years - and our head office is at Suite 1005, 930 16 Ave SW in Calgary. We have served more than 300 Canadian businesses. RiskX Insurance Brokers Inc. is licensed in Alberta and Ontario.
Practically, that means we can sit in your boardroom for the enrolment session, and the person who designed your plan is the person who picks up the phone a year later. If virtual suits you better, that works too.

What a Calgary employer usually wants to know next.
What does it cost?
The employer match is the cost, and you set it. A plan can start at a 1% match and grow when the budget allows, and you decide who becomes eligible and whether different employee classes get different terms. There is no Calgary-specific surcharge; Alberta also has no employer health or payroll tax comparable to Ontario's.
Run the numbers on the matching-cost calculator →How long does it take?
For a 20- to 200-person Calgary firm, plan on about eight to ten weeks from the first call to launch. The variables are your payroll integration, how quickly the plan decisions get made, and enrolment - not the size of your company.

Who can set up a group RRSP for a small company in Calgary?
RiskX can. We are an independent, family-owned brokerage with our head office in Calgary, licensed in Alberta and Ontario, and we have been designing group retirement and benefits plans for Canadian businesses since 1994. We handle the design, the comparison, enrolment, payroll coordination and the annual review; the plan runs on a Canadian, low-fee digital platform.
Do you meet in person?
Yes. Our head office is at Suite 1005, 930 16 Ave SW in Calgary, so we can meet at your office for the design conversation and run enrolment sessions with your team face to face. Virtual works just as well if that suits your people better.
Are you licensed in Alberta?
Yes. RiskX Insurance Brokers Inc. is licensed in Alberta and Ontario.
How long does setup take for a Calgary firm?
Plan on about eight to ten weeks for a 20- to 200-person Calgary firm, from the first call to launch. Timing depends on payroll integration, how quickly plan decisions are made, and enrolment.
What does it cost a 50-person company?
The employer match is the main cost, and you control it. You choose the match percentage, who is eligible, and whether the employer contribution goes into the group RRSP or through a DPSP with vesting. The group retirement page has a matching-cost calculator you can run for your own headcount, salaries and match.
Can we start with a small match and grow it?
Yes. A plan can start at a 1% employer match and scale from there when the budget allows, and the design can reward longer-tenured employees more if that is what you want.
Do you also handle group benefits for Calgary companies?
Yes. RiskX is a full-service employee benefits brokerage as well as a group retirement one, so health and dental can sit alongside the retirement plan. Most Calgary employers who come to us for a group RRSP start there and add the rest later.
